Ceramic hips: Some patients need replacements at younger ages than others. There are now materials used in replacements that may allow for longer longevity of implants. These materials such as ceramics, have lower wear rates and therefore have the potential of lasting longer. These type of materials are sometimes used in younger patients for these reasons.

Yes: There are a variety of alternative bearings that appear to be safe and will allow a new hip a your age to potentially last a lifetime. I would not recommend the use of a metal-on-metal bearing. A metal head against a cross-linked polyethylene bearing is the gold standard.
