How to recover from embolic strokes?

Intensive rehab: Stroke recovery is more related to the size of the stroke, the areas of involvement (motor, speech, vision, etc) than to the exact mechanism of cause. Certain functions of the brain are more plastic (tend to recover) than others, & age is a contributing factor. Recovery tends to be greater in the young than in the elderly. Intensive rehab followed by outpatient rehab provides your best recovery.

Diagnostic testing: Recovery in any type of stroke depends on quality of rehabilitation (physical, occupational and speech therapy). Main next step is the prevention of embolic strokes. Once it is established that strokes are due to embolic clots, one needs to find the source (heart, clots in legs/arms, arteries) and address it. Most often embolic strokes are treated with blood thinners (warfarin etc).

May be easier: An embolic stroke may be more readily reversible acutely, if "clot buster" or anticoagulant used in timely fashion, but if persistent disability, a full rehab program is advised, and this should include physical and occupational therapies, and perhaps speech therapy in addition.
