Many reasons: Chronic back pain is by far the most common cause of chronic pain in adults. Causes can be various. Most are related to disease of the vertebrae, discs, and occasionally nerves and the spinal cord. Most of them result from a wear and tear process, known as degenerative spine disease, whereas others may be a result of a previously sustained injury. There are also mixed ones.
