Hydrochlorathiazide: Hydrochlorthiazide (hctz (hydrochlorothiazide)) is a diuretic used to lower blood pressure and does not work if patients have chronic kidney disease (ckd) with a glomerular filtration rate of < 50 ml/min. If one's BP is not lowered with the use of hctz (hydrochlorothiazide), (hydrochlorothiazide) that may be a sign of sigificant CKD and one may need a change of diuretic from hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) to a loop acting one such as furosemide. If that happens, discuss with your md.
