Irritation: This may reflect superficial irritation, a common problem related to hygiene, as this area is often difficult to clean adequately. It could also reflect a skin infection or a parasitic infestation. Pinworm infection is relatively common in children, although parents can then be exposed. Itching from pinworms is usually most severe at night. A doctor will assess the area and offer treatment.
