GERD/PUD: Spicy food leading to stomach pain that is relieved by lanzoprazole is suggestive of either acid reflux (gastroesophageal reflux disease or gerd) or peptic ulcer disease (pud). Best to check in w/your family doc to determine if/when you need upper endoscopy. Perhaps start w/h pylori breath test looking for active infection which can be treated w/antibiotics. In meantime, avoid spicy foods. Sorry!

Blocks acid, so...: The suffix "itis" means "inflammation". The prefix "gastro" means "stomach." the term "gastritis" thus means an "inflamed stomach." the term is often used imprecisely to mean stomach upset, which can derive from both acid & non-acid causes, slow emptying of the stomach, h.Pylori infection, atrophic & hypersecretory problems. Since Lansoprazole worked, your problem is likely peptic in nature.
