Incorrect method: It is important to follow proper techniques when checking your blood pressure. There are many important factors that can affect your blood pressure readings and give you an erroneous result. The correct cuff size placed on your supported arm at the level of the heart after your have been seated for 5 minutes and no less than 1 hour after exercising, smoking, or consuming caffeine is correct.

Blood pressure: The usual method is with a cuff over the upper arm and the stethoscope located over the brachial artery at the elbow end of the biceps muscle. It is possible to record a less accurate blood pressure in the wrist with the cuff on the forearm.
