Deep Breath: Most dry poder inhalers deliver a specific dose per use. The best way to use these devices is to put the device in your mouth and activate it the take a long slow deep breath that will cause all the powder to go in slowly and wont irritate your airway causing you to cough.

Inhaler: You should have your doctor's staff or doctor show you the correct way to use your inhaler to be sure you are getting the medication. Sometimes pharmacist and their staff may be able to advise. Proper use should be described and demonstrated.

Not aerosolized: Dry powder inhalers depend on your breathing in the particles, there is not any power behind them, like you would see in a metered dose inhaler. Spacers do not allow you to get enough airflow to do it.

It depends: What kind of medication is it? There are various side effects to different medications. One commonly seen side effect of "dry inhalers" containing steroids is fungal/candida infection of the mouth.
