I just had my gallbladder out today and although i was able to go a tiny bit at the hosp. i am having trouble returning to normal bladder evacuation. when will this go away, and what to do until then?

Better tomorrow: Some mild urinary retention is seen occasionally after outpatient general anesthetics. Should be better tomorrow. If lower abdominal pain or swelling develops notify your doctor. Worst case you may need a catheter.

ANURIA: Urine output is important after surgery. Notify your surgeon about the problem and he will take care of you.

Caused by meds: The anti nausea and anesthesia meds can cause this. Usually gone within 24 hours.
