Help you: Dentistry nowadays can be completely pain free and miraculous. I would worry more about what will happen to your tooth (and you ultimately) if you don't see a dentist. Start by going to the dentist to have that tooth (and the rest of your teeth, gums and mouth) evaluated. The dentist can then explain what can be done and how. It's actually very easy and routine.

Being scared : And not seeking prompt timely treatment only makes the treatment more expensive and extensive. Dental procedures today are quite painless. The horror stories of yesteryear are now just that. Don't be scared. As fdr said "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself". You'll do fine. Don't procrastinate and get into to see your friendly dentist asap. He is there to help you - not hurt you.

Needs attention: Even though the tooth isn't currently painful, your description is of a tooth that has broken and needs to be removed. It is a real risk to become abscessed and that will significantly complicate the extraction.Try to find a dentist in which you have confidence to ease some of your dental fears. Some preappointment sedation medications may also relax you for the procedure and help allay some fears.
