Chalazion (stye): A distinct nodule with tenderness and redness of the lid is often a stye (chalazion). Warm compresses x 30 minutes 2 x/day often helps. Also, 1/2 cup of rice in a knee high pantyhose that is microwaved for 15 seconds (and testing on the skin to make sure it is not too hot) is useful. Recurrent chalazia or ones that do not respond to heat need to be seen by an ophthalmologist +/- biopsy.
