Treat symptoms: Infectious mononucleosis is a viral infection that commonly causes sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and other symptoms. The main treatments are hydration and symptomatic care. Often times the liver and spleen are swollen and painful so contact sports should be avoided for the duration of the illness.
