Period frequency: A "true" menstrual event is one which follows an ovulation by almost exactly 14 days or so. In a woman's mid-30's and later, bleeding can occur due to higher estrogen levels required to stimulate ovulation, which just prior to ovulation drop precipitously, producing a sloughing of endometrial tissue and bleeding. Heavy bleeding (like a period every two weeks) should be seen by a physician.
