Retrograde bursa: Causes of pain could be a retrograde bursiitis (fluid sac at the achilles attachment), tendonitis of the flexor hallus tendon, enlarged accessory bone with tendon irritation (os trigonum), achilles tendoniitis, etc. Hope this helps.

Posterior ankle pain: While there may be many reasons for ankle and posterior foot pain, perhaps the most common problems include achilles tendinitis and an enlarged part of the heel bone near where the achilles tendon joins the heel bone ( a "pump bump"). Both problems may be related to "overuse"- more activity than your body can handle. Both conditions should respond to treatment from your podiatrist.
