HIV: In early hiv, many people have a flu-like syndrome including pharyngitis -- but you would not be able to tell from simply looking at the throat. Other symptoms might include patches of thrush infection, because immune status is reduced. Chronic cough, weight loss, chronic diarrhea, night sweats, fungal nail infections, skin rash, etc may other hints. An HIV test is necessary, though.
