Can ritalin (methylphenidate) ( or adderall) cause heart problems to develop in a person who is perfectly healthy, with absolutely no history of heart issues?

Adderal: Adderal and/or r italin can cause high blood pressure. It is also advisable to screen these children for cardiac problems before starting on medication. Children with pre existing conditions are more prone to develop worsening of their cardiac problems.

No: Other than an increase in heart rate, these stimulant medications used appropriately will not cause heart problems. There would have to be something there to start with and that they may exacerbate (worsen). Some heart problems may not be readily known about, though, things like prolonged qtc, unless you have looked very carefully for them because of some type of symptom or family history.
