A member asked:

Why does ritalin (methylphenidate) speed my heart up but at the same time calms me down and makes me feel relaxed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

CNS activity: Ritalin (methylphenidate) stimulate CNS activity ( sympathetic effect- tachycardia). Have been use for hypersomnolence. Ritalin (methylphenidate) it's been linked to serotonin, a naturally occurring chemical on the brain that appear to inhibit behavior and activity. Studies showed that adhd symptoms can decrease by raising the level of serotonin in the brain.
