A member asked:

Does atrial fibrillation get worse as one gets older?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Worsening AF: Af is usually a progressive issue. The progression varies with each person - months, years, decades. It usually increases in frequency or duration over time but there is no defined interval in any specific person. Af causes changes in the electrical properties of the atrium to increase the chances for more af. Therapy with drugs or ablation may decrease the chances of progression. Talk to you md.
