For Major Depression: Remeron (mirtazapine) was initially prescribed for major depression. One of the known side effects is anxiety. That said, many clinicians are prescribing medications for "off-label" uses. This may be such a case. Ask the doctor who prescribed it for anxiety to explain why they chose remeron (mirtazapine). There are drugs that primarily are intended for anxiety.
