"Testing" for ADD: Add/adhd is a diagnosis based on a clinical exam, accomplished in the context of patient history, family history, exclusion of other causes, and mental status exam. Rating scales are frequently used and are helpful (& required by amer. Acad. Of pediatrics). Computerized performance testing is also helpful. However, there is no one independent "test" for add; the diagnosis cannot be made by it.

They are not done: Ahdh is a clinical medical illness, meaning that an accurate diagnosis is made via a thorough face to face examination from a trained clinician. The best trained diagnosticians are physicians, and psychiatrists specialize in these areas. Think of headaches, back pain, and other conditions which are primarily subjective. There is nothing external to measure, as with diabetes or blood pressure.
