A member asked:

How come i have parotitis, but nobody else in the family has it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's not genetic: Or contagious. Often due to dehydration, stones or strictures in the gland or occasionally an autoimmune problem like sjogren's syndrome. You would not expect anyone else in the family to get it.
