Does meningitis usually cause many symptoms?

Yes: Fever, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting , stiff neck, alterations in mental status are all quite commonly seen. Acute meningitis is an infectious disease emergency. There are chronic forms of meningitis which do not require as rapid attention, but anybody suspecting this disease should see a doctor asap.
