A member asked:

Do you think it could be bad to take diphenhydramine before having anesthesia?

It depends: You should not take any medications on the day of your surgery unless specifically directed to do so by your anesthesiologist or surgeon.

No: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (diphenyhydramine) is sometimes given to patient's undergoing anesthesia to help prevent allergic reactions, or in some cases to provide some mild sedation. If you do take it please let your anesthesiologist know. However, it should not be a problem with your anesthetic.
