Is it bad to take benadryl (diphenhydramine) to sleep?

Sleep : I wouldn't recommend taking it as a long term sleep aid. Melatonin may be a better option for you.

Not ideal: As a chemically induced sleep isn't as "good" as natural sleep, but is usuaslly better than no sleep at all. In the short run its ok but if ypu are using it consistently for weeks, then you should review your sleep issues with your PCP.

No: If you must resort to medications Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is relatively safe and has sedative effects. There are however demontrable effects on reaction time even the next day.
