Symptoms & circuits: My friend and colleague stephen m. Stahl, md, pH.D., frequently talks about "symptoms and circuits" in depression. One hypothetical "circuit" is the histamine neurotransmitter system. He hypothesizes that a deficiency in histamine neurotransmission can be associated with the crushing fatigue frequently seen in depression. Provigil and Nuvigil are two "off label" treatments for this.
