Depends...: The amount of time to recover from these symptoms depends on the etiology of the symptoms. A proper diagnosis is needed and then treatment can be given. The sooner the correct treatment begins, the sooner recovery can happen.

Sometimes: If your difficulty breathing is substantial, you should seek immediate help - as the way that severe dyspnea "goes away" is that you can die. Any severe infection can cause shortness of breath and fever; pneumonia (a lung infection) untreated may lead to death as often as 1/2 of the time. Call your physician, or go to an er if you can't get in today.

When did it start?: If you are in good health & have sudden onset of fever & trouble breathing think acute infection - pneumonia, bronchitis, croup. Your doctor or er can help a lot with this. Don't delay - go today! if you have a chronic breathing problem like asthma or COPD you are having an exacerbation. Follow your treatment plan or update your md on status change. Don't sweat the rare stuff - that's our job.
