A member asked:

Do lots of people get pancreatitis, or is it unusual?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acute pancreatitis: The reported annual incidence of acute pancreatitis has been as high as 35 per 100, 000 population, with gallstones and chronic ethanol abuse accounting for about 3/4 of patients in the United States. Accurate assessment of the incidence and mortality of acute pancreatitis is difficult, as mild pancreatitis may be subclinical and deaths may occur before diagnosis in severe cases.
