Yes: The Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud works in two primary ways: it creates a thin uterine lining which helps prevent implantation of an embryo and it helps prevent sperm from moving through the uterus into the fallopian tubes. It does not have enough Progesterone to reliably prevent ovulation.
