Carcinoid syndrome: Is a constellation of symptoms resulting from carcinoid tumors, including flushing, diarrhea & cardiomyopathy. The tumor secretes serotonin & kallikrein . The most important early test is the 24 hour urine screen for 5-hiaa (5-hydroxy indol acetic acid) which is the end product of serotonin metabolism.
