Hypermotility: For whatever reason may cause painful sensations in the vicinity of one's bowels. In the presence of diarrhea, hyper motility should be considered. Not a bad idea to speak with your pcps triage nurse and get a physical exam. Absent other symptoms, excessive gas can cause the pain you describe.

Many possibilities: A sharp pain in the left side could have many different causes, depending on where exactly the pain is located. Muscle spasms, pinching of a nerve, a slipping rib, inflammation of the connective tissue between ribs, and even abdominal gas can cause this type of pain. If the pain is always in the same place, and keeps happening, a visit to the doctor is a good idea.
