A member asked:

Could it be something bad if i have tooth pain?

Not too bad: Teeth hurt because there is material in between the teeth (you can deal with this by brushing and flossing), or due to infection through the enamel into the interior of the tooth (requires a dentist), or due to infection in the root (really painful, helped by an ice cube and may need a root canal) or by referred pain from gum or jaw infection or tumors. See your dentist.

Best to See Dentist: Dental pain can vary from something as simple as gum tissue that has raised & exposed some sensitive tooth structure to cavities & more. The best thing you can do is find out early on, as little problems become more serious issues with the passing of time, plus you suffer with worry & pain. Please take good, regular care of your teeth & you will enjoy them for your lifetime. Prevention is the key!

Possible: Depends on the cause of the pain and how serious the problem is. Consult with your dentist asap.

Yes: Teeth are not suppose to hurt. If they do then something is going wrong. You need to have a dentist discover what is going wrong before it gets too far to save.

Perhaps...: Please see your dentist. The dentist can best determine exactly what is occurring. This can then lead to how to treat the pain. Please see your dentist.

Varies on pain level: Depending on the intensity and duration of the tooth pain you're having, it may or may not be something more involved. It could be referred pain from your joint due to clenching or grinding, a cavity, a tooth nerve issue, a sinus infection, or even a tooth fracture. See your dentist to find out what's going on !

Pain anywhere: Pain anywhere in the body is a warning. Act on it. Seek a professional opinion. Most people don't. They feel it will go awaywith time. It might but usually comes back worse. This is especially true of teeth. Don't wait. Act.

Yes: It should be diagnosed and treated promptly to avoid further pain and problems. Dismissing the pain thinking it will go away will always come back to haunt you, ironically on a holiday weekend when you're only option will be a futile trip to the er! do yourself a favor and get it attended to asap. Hope this helps.

Not necessarily but: There are many causes of tooth pain- cavities, new fillings, grinding/clenching, gum problems, nerve issues with the tooth and/or infection, etc. If a tooth is infected, the infection can spread beyond the roots and into the underlying gum tissue and bone, which does become a concern. See a dentist.

Nothing good: It can't be anything good. And having it looked at now can prevent losing the tooth.
