Several things: Gastroesophageal reflux is most common cause of chest pain in adolescents. Costochondritis or inflammation of anterior ribs and strained muscles can cause pain. Referred pain from below diaphragm such as gaseous distention of splenic flexure of colon , stomach distention , and pancreatitis. In the chest pleuritis, infammation of lining of left lung.
