Not usually: Most lymphatic malformations are congenital, either lymphedema in legs or arms. Some lymphedema called lymphoma praecox does not become apparent until late first decade , second decade of life. Localized swellings, cystic hygromas, occur elsewhere in the body such as neck , abdomen. Acquired lymphedema in adults can occur related to radiation therapy for tumor or from breast surgery.
