Could be allergies: Children can react to changes in the environment as well as to exposure to virus infections. Does this only happen when around children who are coughing, or around adults who are smoking, or around pets, or in certain outdoor environments? Chronic bronchitis sometimes is closely related to allergies or exposure to pollutants such as automobile exhaust or smoke.
