Lactose intolerance: The short answer is yes. Lactase is the enzyme that is active along the intestinal lining. With age, esp after 30s, the intestinal lining contains less lactase, rendering some to become lactose intolerant. Most often, 'transient lactose intolerance' occurs after a bout of a stomach virus or antibiotic-associated diarrhea (ie, any acute/chronic diarrhea), and the lining is temporarily damaged.
