What's the expert opinion, could there ever be a cure for alcoholism?

There are "cures": If by "cure" you mean a magic pill that immediately removes all cravings and symptoms, you may be waiting awhile. However the desire to quit combined with involvement in counseling and 12 step programs is often very effective. There are also medications which can help with cravings. However desire and preparation for preventing relapse always has to be part of the picture.
