A member asked:

I am curious if alcoholism is a disease, how much is the alcoholic at fault?

DIFFERENT TAKE: Fault is not a useful concept. The alcoholic has pleasure centers in his brain that create a demand for more, and small amounts will accellerate the urgency. A better concept would be a neurophysiologic one.

Responsblty no fault: Fault implies blame and judgment, neither of which are helpful to the alcoholic or anyone else. Taking responsibility once a person realizes that they have alcoholism is helpful, leading to getting proper treatment & support. See the video, "pleasure unwoven, " available from www.Instituteforaddictionstudy.Com or watch it on youtube. Explains why addiction is a brain disase & not a choice.
