Things you can do...: The best thing you can do for your friend is help them find a professional. If they told you about their plan, they want help. You don't have the training to "talk them out of suicide." it is complex & each person's issues are different. If you must, go with them to their 1st appointment to make sure they get there & start working on their issues. Be supportive & encourage them to stay in therapy.

Professional Help: That is a tough one. It isn't your responsibility to talk your friend out of suicide. But it is your responsibility not to keep it a secret. Don't know ages, but if it is a young person - their parents or guardian needs to know. If it is an adult with serious si- then contact 911. They are trained to deal with this. Let your friend know you care & encourage getting professional assistance.
