Better treatment: We've been able to successfully treat HIV infection since about 1996, but treatment has continued to improve since then. The treatment is now easier, safer and more effective than it was 10 years ago, so from that standpoint you could say it's less dangerous. But untreated HIV infection is just as dangerous now as it was 10, 20 and 30 years ago.
