Could be hemorrhoids: Heavy bleeding is def a concern. Hemorrhoidal bleeding is usually associated with pain, burning or itching. You will need a detailed anorectal exam and most likely a colonoscopy. Please see a GI doc.

Probably not: Painless rectal bleeding is usually internal hemorrhoids, especially in the absence of abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting. However, the cause of the bleeding should be confirmed. If no hemorrhoids are seen on anal examination then you should have colonoscopy to look for other causes of bleeding. Avoiding constipation with a healthy diet will usually keep hemorrhoids in control.
