Asthma: You should see an allergist to make sure your asthma is just from exercise and not from other triggers. You need to have your lung function checked and the allergist will give you an asthma action plan to manage your symptoms and control your asthma.

Form of asthma: Exercise induced asthma is a form of asthma where symptoms become prominent only with intense physical activity. Individuals who have it show a decline in lung function by 12 to 15% in response to a graded exercise challenge (that is how its diagnosed). Treatment involves use of bronchodilators 15 to 30 minutes before exercise with/without regular use of controller medication. See a pulmonologist.

Different triggers: Most people's asthma symptoms are controllable with one or two daily medications and occasional use of a "rescue" inhaler for breakthrough symptoms. Some people's asthma however is triggered only by exercise. These people often only need to use a rescue type inhaler prior to activity. So , it depends on your particular type of asthma. Talk to your doctor.

Asthma: Exercise induced asthma only happens when you exercise while "generic" asthma is there all the time. As far as treatment, it depends. Many just hit an albuterol inhaler before exercise, you might want to explore possible allergies to address, or pick a sport with less asthma triggers associated with it like swimming.

Albuterolpreexercise: Exercise induced asthma is asthma that is triggered predominantly by exercise. Some patients with asthma have multiple triggers of their asthma and the triggers may include exercise. Taking albuterol 2 puffs 15 minutes prior to exercise helps to alleviate symptoms.
