A member asked:

I have a habit of inhaling lots of air when i eat . i often hear gurgling noises in my esophagus. is this the air or gas? or a problem?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Aerophagia likely: Involuntary belching after a meal is normal, caused by release of swallowed gas after distension of the stomach with food. Magenblase syndrome is postprandial epigastric fullness & bloating, relieved by belching. Aerophagia (accumulation of gas due to air swallowing) is common with anxiety, hypersalivation from gum chewing, smoking, drinking, oral irritation. Air swallowing can become habitual.
