Antivirals: If you in fact have influenza there are several effective antiviral medications which if taken in the first day or two of illness may markedly shorten the course of the disease. More importantly, by limiting the extent of damages due to the "flu" they may also prevent secondary bacterial infections which are a significant cause of deaths due to influenza.

Flu treatment: If you can see a doctor quickly (within the first 72 hours of symptoms) you can get a prescription for a medication like tamiflu or relenza, (zanamivir) which should shorten the period of symptoms by about 1-2 days.

No good/quick way: There's no good, quick, safe way to get rid of over over the flu (influenza) or for that matter any other viral infection. It's just a matter of time. You can help yourself by eating healthy, drinking plenty of non-alcoholic, non-sugary fluids, and getting enough rest. If you truly have influenza as determined by your family doc, s/he can sometimes prescribe anti-virals. But time is true answer.

Homeopathy: If you are talking about true influrnza, nothing gets rid of it quickly. The most reliable treatment is about 50 grams of vit c given IV but few docs offer this. Sambucol, an elderberry extract, is proven to help. Avoid tamiflu- barely helps, serious side effects! my favorite treatment is homeopathy- the right remedy can be magic! for help finding it see: http://www.Flusolution.Net/remedies.Htm.

No quick relief: drink plenty of water, chicken soup/broth, supplement with vitamin c, plenty of sleep. Optimizing the health of your immune system with the flu vaccine, exercise, sleep, and good nutrition can reduce the risk of catching the flu, however, once you have the flu there is no way to get rid of it quickly. remember to wash your hands frequently and avoid contact with people who have a cold or flu.

Influenza: The rate of recovery from influenza will depend upon the individual infected and whether they are immune competent. Antivirals such as oseltamivir, zanamivir and amantidine given immediately after onset of symptoms may shorten disease by a day and prevent complications. The best thing to do is to alleviate symptoms with OTC meds, stay hydrated and rest a lot. Good luck.
