Safe: Your baby needs a little bit of iron, too - but iron is considered safe for breastfeeding mothers. 325mg of iron twice a day is a very normal amount, not too high to worry about any toxicity, and after you deliver the baby you will lose some blood making you more anemic and your body will need the extra iron for a month or so to help get your levels back to a normal range.

No problem: The iron in breast milk is safe and even beneficial for your baby. It is always a good idea to ask a doctor before taking medication while breast feeding - congratulations for thinking ahead and asking about your baby's safety.
