Why do we leave fingerprints, what are they?

Anatomy: If you look closely at the skin of your fingers you see all kinds of circles and waves and lines. Can you believe it, but every one of us have a specific pattern to these skin markings. When we touch something our skin's oil, dirt and dying cells can leave a subtle imprint that can be easily examined and captured.
