A member asked:

Could you tell me what happens if you have a drug addiction and you suddenly stop taking drugs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Withdrawal: The response to sudden cessation is withdrawal and what happens depends on the specific drug or drugs being used to which someone is addicted. Off a sedative, typically anxious. Off a stimulant can be agitated but also very fatigued. See an addiction specialist to address.
