See below: Mononucleosis is generally a self limited infection that resolves without treatment. If there are complications or a severe infection corticosteroids like Prednisone are sometimes used. The decision to treat with Prednisone would be your doctor's as there are potential complications from this treatment. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen can be taken for sore throat and fever.
