Treating hay fever: Hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) is best treated by topical nasal steroids starting just before the season and using it daily through the pollen season. The addition of nondrowsy antihistamines (claritin, allegra, zyrtec) used as needed if the nasal spray is not enough. For long term treatment, if symptoms are significant or hard to control, allergy injections can be very helpful.

So many choices now: Many options over the counter now for hay fever (allergic rhinitis). Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec and their generics; Flonase and Nasacort (triamcinolone) and their generics; Sudafedrine, and Zaditor (ketotifen) eyedrops usually will do the trick. If not, see an allergist.
