When will my baby start to understand that certain things are dangerous?

Don't count on it!: When you touch a hot stove, for instance, and get burned, that's called a "natural consequence." toddlers will start to reliably learn from natural consequences by 15-18 months-- and even then, it may take more than one lesson. In other words, it's the adults' job to protect young children from dangerous things-- you can't depend on them to protect themselves.
