Not necessarily: A murmur is a vibration of the heart heard by a stethoscope. Some murmurs are normal, others may be due to a leaky (regurgitant) or a narrowed (stenotic) valve. Many people have a small amount of leakage of a valve which may not progress. Only if the valve condition progresses to a severe degree of leakage or narrowing would valve repair or replacement become necessary.
